Wait in line for 3 hours, just to buy a cup of online celebrity milk tea, summer is to usher in the peak of milk tea sales. However, what is the nutritional value of all kinds of online celebrity milk tea in the market when they earn the attention of consumers?

Today, the Municipal Consumer Protection Commission issued a bulletin on the "comparative experiment of milk tea" to uncover the "mysteries" of online celebrities.

In 27 milk tea shops, a total of 51 milk tea samples were purchased, including Xi tea, imperial tea, tribute tea, a little bit and other online celebrities milk tea.

The experimenter commissioned the Shanghai Nutrition Food quality Inspection Station to detect the sugar, fat, trans fatty acids and caffeine in milk tea.

The truth turned out to be a surprise!

Truth one: caffeine is common, but it is never reminded!

The test found that all 51 pieces of milk tea contained caffeine, and the average content of each cup of milk tea reached 270mg. Among them, the highest content of a cup of milk tea is Letangkou original hand-pulled tea (sugar-free), caffeine content up to 428mg/ cup, equivalent to 4 cups of American coffee or 8 cans of Red Bull.

Cao Shuliang of the Shanghai Nutrition Food quality Inspection Station pointed out that caffeine is generally found in coffee, strong tea and other drinks, and it is best for healthy adults to consume no more than 200mg at a single time. Pregnant women and children and other people should not eat too much, otherwise it will cause similar anxiety symptoms, such as palpitations, tremors, sleep disorders and so on.

Moreover, of the 27 milk tea shops, only one had a vague hint that "pregnant women drink too much", while all the other milk teas did not give any hint that milk tea contained caffeine.

Truth 2: say "no sugar" but "have sugar"

Sugar content is also another problem for all kinds of online celebrities to deceive consumers. All the so-called "sugar-free" milk tea was found to contain sugar after testing.

In 27 pieces of milk tea with normal sweetness, the sugar content ranges from 11 grams to 62 grams per cup, with an average sugar content of 34 grams per cup. "people in Tea", which has the highest sugar content, a cup of silk stockings milk tea contains 14 cubes of sugar, far exceeding the "daily sugar intake of no more than 50g, preferably less than 25g" stipulated in the Dietary guidelines for Chinese residents 2016.

And "no sugar" does not mean that there is no sugar. All of the 20 samples claimed to be sugar-free were found to have sugar content, with an average sugar content of 2.4G/100ML and the lowest 1.2G/100ML. Among them, four "sugar-free" products from LELECHA, Mr. Hope, Kawangka and Xi Tea have sugar contents ranging from 5G/100ML to 3.3G/100ML, which are higher than some normal sweetness samples. Although there is no current standard for sugar-free beverages, according to GB28050-2011 General principles for Nutrition labelling of prepackaged Foods, 20 samples of sugar-free beverages with sugar content less than or equal to 0.5G hand are not in line with the standard.

Truth 3: using milk is not "real".

In the protein test, the protein content of 19 samples was obviously on the low side.

A test for trans fatty acids also showed that it was significantly too high. Among them, the two milk teas of the "Kawangka" brand and the two milk teas of the "aunt milk tea" brand have the problems of low protein and high content of trans fatty acids.

In this regard, experts distracted that these two indicators are out of balance, indicating that businesses may not use "real materials", milk raw materials are likely to be replaced by cream and so on.

In this regard, the Consumer Protection Commission reminded businesses that they should strictly check the raw materials, understand the effect of processing technology, and indicate the composition content of milk tea and the inapplicable crowd. The caffeine content in milk tea may be very high, and children, pregnant women, high blood pressure, heart disease patients and other special people should avoid excessive consumption. In addition, the milk lid has a high fat content, and those who need to control their weight should also drink it properly.
