The Sun Moon Lake coffee participating in this competition was affected by last year's frost damage, and only 37 coffee samples were evaluated. However, under the careful selection of farmers, the evaluation score of 80 points or more was still as high as 70%. Although the special prize (84 points or more) was missing, the coffee beans that won the first prize (83 points or more) still showed good quality. The acidity was reduced by sunlight and fermentation methods to maintain the clean and mellow flavor of Sun Moon Lake fine coffee.
The first prize was won by Taiwan Agriculture and Forestry Corporation and Wang Yujun respectively. The excellent prize (82 points or more) included Qiao Yun Coffee, Sun Moon Star Dance, etc. There were 11 first and excellent prizes, 15 fine beans (80 to 82 points), and a total of 26 coffee awards.
Taiwan Agriculture and Forestry Corporation said that the coffee industry, which was cultivated from black tea six years ago, can still maintain the flavor of Sun Moon Lake coffee under adverse conditions of climate variation, and reduce the acidity with sunlight, carefully consider the degree of fermentation, and ensure that the coffee does not lose flavor. It is really not easy to win the award.
The office said that in order to ensure the quality of Sun Moon Lake fine coffee, the evaluation method has been changed from last year to a graded system, and the quality must reach a certain level before awards are awarded. Last year, coffee farmers were not mature in the post-processing technology, so that coffee could not reach the special prize level. This year, due to weather factors, coffee aroma could not be fully presented, so that even the special prize for two years was not available. However, farmers can also accumulate experience, so that the future coffee quality can be more mature and stable.
