In recent years, with the popularity of mobile phones, telephone booths and public telephones have been gradually eliminated, but telephone booths have also been given new functions!

British telephone booth

In 1920, the first British telephone booth Kiosk No.1 (referred to as K1) appeared on the streets of England, nearly a century, after continuous revision, it is now very difficult to see K1 in the UK.

The most common K6 on the streets in Britain is designed by Giles Gilbert Scott. In addition to phone booths, Liverpool Cathedral and Waterloo Bridge are also Scott's masterpieces.

Located opposite the leading coffee shop chain, Jake Hollier's coffee shop Jake's Coffee Box hides in a K6, perhaps the smallest coffee shop in the world.

Although the space is small, any coffee drink you can think of is available, and there are light food sandwiches to go with. There are no seats, so Jake only provides take-out service. 20 customers come to the door in the first hour of the opening. Although there is no comfortable dining environment, it is a new experience.

Jake and his coffee shop

With one mobile phone in the hands of modern people, the utilization rate of public telephone booths has been greatly reduced. There were once more than 70,000 telephone booths in Britain, but now there are only more than 10,000 left. Telecom companies have no choice but to gradually phase out telephone booths when they are unable to meet the cost.

However, K6 has become an element of British culture, and many people are aware of this problem, so they have launched a plan to retain K6.

The Red Kiosk Company teamed up with Thinking Outside the Box to buy phone booths and sell them cheaply to people in need.

In addition to Jake's coffee shop, there are also phone booths selling ice cream and muffins. This project provides friendly job opportunities and gives new life to K6 phone booths facing Taobao.

Many cafes renovated in old houses in Taiwan also retain Taiwan's architectural culture, showing a different flavor between the old and the new. Have you seen any other alternative coffee shops? Share with us, too!
