Following the record-breaking auction in 2020, the quality of the 2021 Nicaragua Excellence Cup is close to its previous record, resulting in four coffee beans with a score of more than 90 points.

A total of 23 coffee growers have won COE awards in the recent competition, and all 23 beans with a score of more than 87 will be auctioned online on Tuesday, June 29. In addition to the 23 coffee beans, a group of 12 "National winners" (National Winners) coffee beans, scored between 85 and 87 by international judges, will be auctioned between June 28 and July 9.

Nicaragua COE award-winning coffee beans are produced in the most representative Arabica coffee growing areas, Nueva Segovia (Nueva Segovia), Genotega (Jinotega) and Matagalpa (Matagalpa), and contain 12 different varieties of coffee beans, which are treated by washing, solarization, honey or anaerobic treatment.

The batch with the highest score was the washed-treated Pacamara variety, submitted by Jesus Mountain Coffee of Nueva Segovia, one of the former COE award-winning growers. The second place in the Nicaragua Excellence Cup in 2021 went to Maracadura, which was also honey-treated at the El Cambalache farm in Segovia, Nueva, and the third place was suntan Kaduai at Los Pirineos farm. Each of the top three coffee beans in the Excellence Cup will be auctioned into two parts.

The fourth coffee bean in Nicaragua's COE is the only one representing the Estri region. It is a water-washed Rosa seed coffee bean, which was submitted by Auxilio Mundial Farm and scored 90.11 points.

"Thank God, my family, the excellent Cup and the staff who organized the competition. All the efforts are worth it, and although there are always some growers who think that the competition is only for big farms, I have proved that even small growers like me have a chance in this kind of competition. " Said AbnerSamuel Zavala of El Cambalache Farm, the second winner of Nicaragua's COE in 2021, in an announcement from the Excellence Cup Alliance.

The Nicaraguan Outstanding Cup was fully supported by the country's coffee agriculture transformation and development committee, and the winners were commended at the award ceremony on May 14.
