As a well-known coffee chain brand, it even treats customers differently?
More and more people drink coffee, and more and more people want to take it away. Many catering brands see the needs of these people and set up "speed-up" as a "lazy man service". The "speed drive" service is a very mainstream choice in some sparsely populated, mainly driving countries in Europe and the United States. Recently, some foreign netizens said that they also drove to the coffee shop and were refused service because they were driving bicycles.
The incident took place on June 25, local time, at a Costa coffee shop in Scotland, where the cyclist found a piece of paper pasted on the glass door of the coffee shop, which read: because the staff is sick, we have only opened the service aisle; we can only enjoy services in motor vehicles; orders can still be placed in software today; business will not resume until June 27.
The person concerned told the bicycle media Road.cc that he got on his bike and entered the passageway. When the staff saw the bike, they looked embarrassed and explained that they did not serve bicycle customers because of the company's policy. Later, another staff member arrived and politely apologized and explained that he might be hit by a car coming from behind.
Then the cyclist moved his bike to the middle of the driveway, blocking customers driving behind. Subsequently, the staff called the police and provided services for motor vehicle customers behind.
In response to this incident, a spokesman for Costa said to Road.cc that it confirmed that the incident had occurred at their store in Abbotswell Road, which only provides express service and online order service for the time being, and is deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused during the closure period.
It is not the first time that bicycle consumers have been denied service on the Costa express passageway, it happened as early as June 2020, and it has also attracted questions from foreign netizens about Costa. At the time, Costa was forced to explain the policy on Twitter: due to strict health and safety guidelines, Costa staff will not serve customers who are not sitting in motor vehicles, and we deeply apologize for any displeasure caused.
When asked about the reasons for the policy, a member of the Costa social media team explained that bicycles are not taxed or insured like motor vehicles. The staff member then deleted the tweet and apologized.
The British Cycling Association wrote on Twitter: there has been no road tax in the UK since 1937. Many motorists are also cyclists who pay vehicle excise tax based on emissions, and all members of the association have insurance.
Not all Delais refuse to serve cyclists. In Quezon City, Canada, Dunkin has opened up a special speed lane for cyclists, freeing them from the hassle of getting off.
The popularity of drive-through began in the 1970s, and in order to save space in parking lots and lobbies, many fast food restaurants set up drive-in services. With the popularity of smartphones, more and more restaurants have supported mobile phone orders-picking up food, and even takeout, where it is easier to spend a few dollars to run errands than to pick up your own food.
