Recently, Jiemu News reported that after checking into a hotel, a customer brewed coffee provided in the room caused physical discomfort, and then found that he had accidentally drunk a long-overdue drink.
According to the customer from Zhengzhou, he went to Chengdu on a business trip on August 20, and the inviting party helped book a Holiday Inn in Chengdu City. After checking in, he noticed that there was instant coffee provided by the hotel in the room, so he brewed and drank it himself.
But shortly after drinking the coffee, he felt discomfort in his stomach. At first, he thought it was because he was a little acclimatized when he first arrived in a different place. However, after seeing the coffee packaging bag, the customer realized that the cause of the gastrointestinal discomfort might be this cup of instant coffee.
Judging from the photos provided by the guests, the production date of the two packs of instant coffee in the room is March 21, 2022, and the shelf life is 24 months, which means that these two packs of instant coffee have expired in March this year. However, the hotel did not realize in time that the food provided to the guest room had expired for nearly half a year, and it was still placed in the room for guests to pick it up on demand, which really made consumers feel indignant.
The customer said that he had finished his business trip and informed the hotel manager that the coffee in the room had expired when checking out. After returning to Zhengzhou, he still felt unwell and sought medical treatment. A manager of the hotel also contacted him during this period and said that he could refund the room charge for their party and compensate him another 2000 yuan.
It is worth mentioning that the customer said,"According to them (referring to the hotel), this 2000 yuan is not compensation, but a reward for us discovering the problem."
Although the hotel provided a compensation plan for this work mistake, the dissatisfied customer failed to agree and complained about the situation they had encountered to the Chengdu 12345 hotline in order to seek a reasonable explanation and a satisfactory negotiation result for both parties.
On September 19 and September 20, Jiemu News reporters contacted the customer service of the Holiday Inn to learn about the expiration of the coffee in the room. The staff all said that relevant personnel would respond. On the afternoon of the 20th, the reporter came to the hotel where the consumer had stayed to learn about the matter. The staff of the store said that the customer had complained to the regulatory authorities. At present, the market regulatory authorities have intervened and have visited the hotel on the spot. All results are based on the official investigation.
The reporter also learned through the Chengdu 12345 hotline platform that customer complaints about Holiday Inn are being handled by the local market supervision and administration bureau. The staff of the Administration Bureau stated that the complainant will be informed of the result after the complaint is completed.
However, as of press time on the afternoon of the 20th, the reporter had not received a reply from the hotel on this matter, nor had he received the investigation results given by the relevant departments after the customer complained.
