When Wang Ching-Wei's government took over the concession in 1943, it changed its name to Xikang Road, which got its name from Xikang Province, a province in western China. Traditionally, Xikang Road is a residential area along the south of the road, and gradually transitions to the north into an industrial area. Nanyang intersection is Jing'an Gymnasium, which was originally the Nanyang Road meeting place built by the Shanghai Church in 1948. The new gate intersection is the Jing'an District Central Hospital.
