Researchers from the United States and South Korea have jointly found that coffee protects against retinal degeneration
Coffee has always been the focus of attention in the health community. Coffee is good for the eyes and helps prevent retinal degeneration, researchers in the United States and South Korea have found.
Cornell university and south korean researchers fed mice nitric oxide to expose them to oxidative stress and free radicals that cause eye diseases such as retinal degeneration. However, the researchers found that there was no retinal degeneration in the group of mice that received chlorogenic acid earlier than normal mice. Chlorogenic acid, an antioxidant found in coffee, is 7% to 9% in unrefined coffee.
The study, published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, explains that millions of light-sensing and nerve cells are distributed in the retina, responsible for receiving and processing images seen by the eye. It is also a tissue with frequent metabolism, which needs oxygen very much. It is easily affected by factors such as blood supply and aging, which eventually leads to the disappearance of vision. New research has found that certain components in coffee can delay retinal degeneration and may help people find new ways to protect their eyesight in the future.
