According to a joint statement issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Canadian Department of Health on Thursday, more than 600000 Mr. Coffee single-cup coffee machines made in China will be recalled due to potential burns.

The coffee machines, imported by Jarden Consumer Solutions, were sold for $60 to $80 each between September 2010 and August this year, with 520000 sold in the United States and 80700 in Canada.

Jarden said that during use, the steam accumulated in the sinks of these coffee machines may open the boiling chamber and spray hot coffee grounds and water.

The company has so far received 164 reports of bubble chambers popping open due to steam pressure, of which 61 resulted in scalds on consumers' faces, upper limbs and hands, 59 in the United States and two in Canada.

Consumers should stop using these coffee machines immediately and contact Jarden to find out how to replace them for free.
