The special flavor and strong aroma of coffee is an irresistible temptation for many people, and many office workers drink several cups of coffee every day to refresh themselves. Caffeine does enhance memory, improve emotional order, and improve work efficiency. Other studies have shown that drinking coffee can reduce the risk of depression, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease and stroke. There are even reports that drinking coffee can prevent cancer.
A recent study of 6989 Italian men showed that drinking more than three cups of coffee a day had a chance to reduce the risk of cancer. But the researchers point out that the coffee has to be brewed in an Italian way to be effective.
Dr Licia Iacoviello, director of the Molecular and Nutrition Epidemiology Laboratory in Pozzilli, Italy, explained: "Italian coffee is stronger because they brew coffee at higher temperature and pressure and are no longer filtered." Conceivably, this kind of coffee can extract more bioactive ingredients from coffee beans.
There have been many previous studies on whether drinking coffee can prevent prostate cancer, but the results are not enough to support the anti-cancer effect of coffee. The purpose of this study is to provide a clearer answer.
The team followed nearly 7000 men over the age of 50 in the Molise region of Italy for four years and investigated their eating habits and coffee drinking. During the follow-up period, 100 men were found to have prostate cancer, and on average they drank less coffee. Further analysis showed that people who drank more than three cups of coffee a day were 47% more likely to develop prostate cancer than those who drank only two cups of coffee or none. The results were published online in the April issue of the International Journal of Cancer (International Journal of Cancer).
The researchers also treated prostate cancer cells with coffee factors in the laboratory, which also significantly inhibited the growth and metastasis of prostate cancer cells, so caffeine may be the main reason why drinking coffee can prevent cancer. It can be seen that if you drink decaffeinated coffee (Decaffeinated Coffee / Decaf) should not have the effect of cancer prevention.
A previous large study analyzed the data of 455123 subjects and found that drinking more than five cups of coffee a day significantly reduced the risk of prostate cancer. The reason why there are more cups of coffee may be due to the different ways of making coffee.
Note: some experts warn that drinking a lot of coffee can cause side effects such as palpitations, heart disease, high blood pressure or anxiety. It is recommended that you limit your coffee to 3 cups a day. Drinking coffee may also affect sleep. People with slow caffeine metabolism should drink it in the morning as far as possible so as not to interfere with sleep at night.
