According to industry statistics, from October last year to June this year, the total value of Honduran coffee exports reached 1145 million US dollars, with a total value of 8.2 million kilograms.

A report released by the Honduran Coffee Association (Ihcafe) pointed out that in the year to the end of June, the total value of Honduran coffee exports increased by 63.5% from US $700 million in the same period last year.

In terms of volume, coffee exports totaled only 5.5 million metric tons in the same period in 2015-2016, with a sharp increase of 49 per cent this year.

Ihcafe officials say Honduras has become the largest coffee exporter in Central America and fifth in the world.

According to statistics, Brazil is the world's largest exporter of coffee, followed by Vietnam, Colombia and India.

Honduras is expected to export 9 million metric tons of coffee with a total value of US $1.5 billion by the end of the year (the end of September).

According to official statistics, coffee exports account for 5 per cent of Honduras's gross domestic product and 30 per cent of total agricultural gross domestic product.
