Honduras becomes the fifth largest coffee exporter in the world

According to the latest international market survey, Honduras has replaced India and Ethiopia as the world's fifth largest coffee exporter.

According to the latest report released by the Honduran Coffee exporters Association (Adecafeh) yesterday, Honduras exported a total of 8.08 million bags (46 kg each) of coffee by the end of the harvest year (ending at the end of September).

Adecafeh Chief Executive Peng Migai (Miguel Pon) said that the above exports increased by 2.14 million bags over the same period last year, a growth rate of 36 per cent. At the same time, the total value of exports reached 1.151 billion US dollars.

According to Peng Migai, Honduras has overtaken India and Ethiopia to become the world's fifth largest coffee exporter after Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia.

He said 71% of Honduran coffee exports went to Europe, 24% to countries on the American continent and 4% to Asia.
