Recently, two studies published in the Annals of Internal Medicine have confirmed the most important health benefits of coffee: it can help you live longer. Drinking one (or, to be honest, three) cups of coffee a day is not just confusing, it actually turns out to increase your lifespan.

Both studies analyzed the self-reporting habits of more than 700,000 people in the United States and 10 European countries over an average of 16 years, with particular attention to the death rate of coffee drinkers in the non-white population. Each separate study showed that people who consumed more liquid energy during the study tended to have a lower risk of death than those who sipped or drank less coffee.

The study, conducted in the United States, examined Americans of African, Japanese and Hispanic descent and found that drinking four or more cups of coffee a day during a 16-year follow-up reduced the risk of premature death by 18 percent. But this benefit does not necessarily apply only to coffee addicts, as those who drank only one cup of coffee were also found to have a 12% lower risk of death than those who did not.

It is important to note that this benefit is true for people who drink caffeinated or non-caffeinated drinks. This suggests that caffeine is not a major component of the health benefits of dark drinks. This may be due to various antioxidants in beverages that have been shown to help reduce the risk of diseases such as diabetes and some cancers.

Studies conducted in Europe found similar benefits because coffee drinkers had a 7% to 12% lower risk of death than non-coffee drinkers.

Although this is the result of the survey, it does not mean that you have to start drinking coffee every time you eat. Like most things in life, moderation is the key!
