Myanmar "Miao Wadi" reported on August 18 that Wu Yemin, president of the Myanmar Coffee Association, said that Myanmar currently has a coffee planting area of about 50, 000 acres and can produce more than 8, 000 tons of coffee beans every year, but the annual export volume is only about 1000 tons. The rest is used for domestic consumption. Among Burmese coffee, Arabica coffee from the plateau costs about 4 million kyat a ton and exports about 6000 U.S. dollars per ton, while coffee from the plains costs more than 2.5 million kyat per ton. At present, the United States has become a major importer of Burmese coffee. In fiscal year 2015-2016, Myanmar exported only two containers of coffee beans from the United States, about 36 tons, while in fiscal year 2016-2017, it has increased to 10 containers, or about 200tons. According to statistics from the Trade Department of the Myanmar Ministry of Commerce, Myanmar exported 506 tons of coffee in the 2011-2012 fiscal year, 622 tons in the 2012-2013 fiscal year, 1153 tons in the 2013-2014 fiscal year, 1157 tons in the 2014-2015 fiscal year and 1,137 tons in the 2013-16 fiscal year.
