Capital One Financial, headquartered in McLean, will open two coffee shops in Washington next year, one in Georgetown and the other in Chinatown.

Coffee shops combine banking with places of entertainment, where customers can buy coffee and food, use free Wi-Fi, and get some work done.

First Capital Bank says it wants to enhance people's financial confidence by updating the banking experience and providing simple and direct services. Because many people like the digital experience, and many people also like interpersonal communication, first Capital decided to open a coffee shop.

The business philosophy of the two coffee shops is that coffee shops are also banks, and baristas work with financial planners to provide free advice. Coffee shops will also be open to the public, not just first Capital customers.

Coffee shop staff can talk to people about their financial habits and goals and provide free financial planning services, such as financial tutoring. Free conference rooms are also available for entrepreneurs, students, retirees and non-profit organizations.

The first Capital Georgetown Cafe is located at 3150 M St. NW. First Capital recently bought the house for $50.2 million, a new record per square foot of commercial real estate in Washington.

The coffee shop in Chinatown is located at 732-736 7th St. NW, opposite the gallery square.

Capital one has opened nearly 24 coffee shops in Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston and Philadelphia.
