With the aging of the local social population, the number of dementia patients increases year by year. In order to help more patients care for the aged in the community, China has built a Dementia-Friendly Community.

After Yi Shun, Mount Pitt East-Thomson became the second dementia friendly community, and the Golden Mountain Cafe in the district became the first dementia friendly coffee shop in Hong Kong.

Pishan-Toa Yiu GRC Member Chung Ki-hung said that Pishan East-Thomson District will also launch more community activities in the next year to share knowledge about dementia, and also set a target of training 3000 friends of dementia in the district within a year. At present, 14 front-line service personnel of the Shandong People's Club have completed one hour of training.

He believes that coffee shops are places where many residents need to pass by, where many residents gather and where traffic is high, and the idea of implementing dementia friendly coffee shops is very appropriate.

It is reported that there are about 15 coffee shops in the Bishan-Toa Yiu GRC. In addition to Jinshanling Coffee Shop, Bishan People's Club, Bishan Business Association and Touch Family Service also joined the project to jointly create a dementia friendly community.

The Lian Foundation launched the Forget Us Not initiative two years ago to raise awareness of the growing problem of dementia.

Li Baohua, president of the Lian Foundation, said that with the aging of the local population, the number of dementia patients has increased year by year. Studies have shown that the incidence of dementia among local elderly aged 60 and above is as high as 10%. The older the age, the higher the risk of dementia.

He said the campaign, launched by the Lien Foundation, has so far trained 86 organizations and nearly 19,000 friends of dementia, including employees from transportation, finance and catering, to identify people with dementia and how to give them appropriate help.
