In the first eight months of this (2017-2018) harvest year, compared with the same period last year, Honduran coffee exports fell by 15.5 per cent in value and 1 per cent in volume.
According to the Honduran Coffee Association (Ihcafe), from October last year to May this year, Honduras's coffee exports totaled 822 million US dollars, down 15.5% from 983 million US dollars in the same period last year.
In terms of total volume, during the above-mentioned eight-month period, Honduras exported a total of 6.69 million metric piculs of coffee, a decrease of only one percentage point compared with 6.75 million piculs in the same period last year.
Ihcafe noted that weak prices in the international market had led to a decline in the total value of coffee exports from Honduras. The average price of international coffee in the first eight months of this year was $122.93 per picule, but the average price was as high as $144.13 per piculs in the same period last year.
According to statistics, Germany, Belgium, the United States and Italy remained the main export markets for Honduran coffee in the first eight months of this year, with imports from these four countries accounting for 74 percent of Hong coffee exports.
Ihcafe estimates that in the current harvest year, which ends at the end of September, Honduras is expected to export 9 million litres of coffee, with a total value of more than US $1.5 billion.
