Buttered tea is a special drink of Xizang. It is eaten together with Zanba as a staple food, which has the effect of keeping out the cold and refreshing the brain, invigorating body and relieving thirst. It is one of the necessary foods for Tibetans to entertain guests. But what is the relationship between bulletproof coffee and buttered tea? The following is such a story.
Dave Dave Asprey, an American, is 45 years old. He used to be a technology executive in Silicon Valley, but a few years ago he created his own unique coffee brand company: bulletproof Coffee (Bulletproof coffee).
Bulletproof coffee has become popular all over the world, including some American celebrities. The creation of the brand has also made Yaspree a "successful" entrepreneur. But unlike other entrepreneurs, Yaspree also set himself ambitions: to live to be 180. It's not a joke, he's very serious.

Yaspree believes that longevity is no longer a dream, and he is willing to "give his life" to realize this longevity wish.
Biological hacker
In the eyes of many people, Yaspree may be a little "weird". And he himself calls himself "the world's first professional biohacker." The so-called biohackers refer to those who try to "improve" their physical conditions by means of technology, that is, people who seem a little crazy to many of us.
Aspley, for example, draws bone marrow every six months and then injects some of the stem cells back into the body. In addition, he often stays in the cryotherapy room, using liquid nitrogen coolant to cool his body. At the same time, he will also shine infrared light and use the same electrode to stimulate the brain.
These "immortal" attempts by Aspree are expensive, but fortunately, he has bulletproof coffee to provide him with financial backing.

Bulletproof coffee
Bulletproof coffee is actually a drink that adds cream and pure coconut oil to black coffee.
Of course, you don't have to buy the original bulletproof coffee from Aspley. You can use any coffee and then add any cream and pure coconut oil to make this drink. Yaspree says bulletproof coffee can help improve people's physical and mental health. Some people say that it also has a wonderful effect on weight loss.
Aspley has sold bulletproof coffee since 2012 and has sold an estimated 160 million cups of bulletproof coffee. The brand is headquartered in Seattle, and bulletproof coffee has attracted $68 million in investment. In addition to specialty coffee, the current business has been expanded to cover food, daily necessities and other commodities.
Xizang buttered tea
The inspiration for Yaspree to create bulletproof coffee is actually Xizang's buttered tea. In 2004, Aspley started a trip to Xizang. The main reason that prompted him to travel to Xizang was also related to his health.
Although Aspley had a successful career in Silicon Valley at that time, he was an overweight (he once weighed 136 kilograms) and was in poor health. In order to improve his health, Yaspree hopes to study meditation in Xizang. One day, while he was climbing the mountain, someone gave him a bowl of Tibetan traditional drink: buttered tea. After drinking this bowl of buttered tea, Aspleton felt refreshed, which he had not felt for a long time.

Bulletproof coffee was inspired by Xizang's trip in Aspley.
After returning to his home in California after a trip to Xizang, Yaspree was obsessed with this. So he began to concoct his own version of milk tea. Xizang butter tea uses the milk of yaks peculiar to Tibet, and there are no yaks in California. He replaced it with a similar product, cream.
At the same time, Aspley replaced tea with coffee. His idea is that coffee should be more effective than tea. But after trying, he felt that something was missing, so Aspree added pure coconut oil rich in medium-chain triglycerides. He drinks this bulletproof coffee every morning. Bulletproof coffee, he once said, "changed his life and made him lose 45kg."
Then, Yaspree shared the benefits of the drink on his blog; three years later, he began selling three ingredients of bulletproof coffee online. Next, someone began to invest in him, one of whom was also an early investor in Starbucks Coffee in the United States. In 2016, the American boutique supermarket chain, whole Foods (Whole Foods Market), began supplying bulletproof coffee, which helped the brand.
Critical voice
However, Yaspree also faces some criticism, especially from some professionals in the health industry. They point out that Yaspree does not have any medical qualifications or training in nutrition. Opponents also point out that coffee with cream is not healthy.
Despite the skepticism, some professionals admit that bulletproof coffee is influential. Jonny Forsyth, head of Mintel, a global food and beverage market research agency, said that while the health benefits of bulletproof coffee were a bit unclear, it caters to consumer psychology, promising to provide consumers with a drink that is "healthier", more powerful and can stay energetic for a long time.
But Aisling Pigott, a registered dietitian at the British Dietetic Association, is sharply critical. She doesn't think it's good to add cream to the coffee. She said she would not recommend such a breakfast to anyone because it has no protein, vitamins or minerals and only adds extra calories and fat.

Yaspree is not worried about such criticism. He quoted some health professionals as saying that a diet high in fat and low in sugar is good for people. He also said that he previously had arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, cognitive impairment, as well as symptoms of prediabetes (pre-diabetic), and was at high risk of stroke and heart disease. All in all, I was in poor health at that time. But "these symptoms have disappeared" since drinking bulletproof coffee.
He said that unlike modern dietary fashion, his drink is based on the 4, 000-year-old Xizang traditional drink. So he doesn't mind being part of this long history. (translator's note: Xizang buttered tea actually has a short history of several hundred years.)
