Starbucks Environmental Day brings its own cup Starbucks launched a new "slag pipe" and "shop cup"
Master of environmental protection Starbucks has come up with a new way to play!
New "slag tubes" and "store cups" will be launched soon, Starbucks announced on its official Wechat account on April 19.
It is understood that April 22nd is a holiday specially set up for the protection of the world environment, and this holiday is also a very special day for Starbucks. As we all know, on April 22nd of every year, Starbucks will launch its own cup free coffee activity as scheduled, and this year is not surprising. Starbucks has announced the details of "one free cup on April 22nd Earth Day" on Weibo on April 19.
In addition, Starbucks also launched a new "slag tube" and "store cup".
The new "slag pipe" looks like this:
According to Starbucks, the new "dregs tube" is a biodegradable straw made of PLA and "coffee grounds", which degrades more than 90% in four months, while all the coffee grounds that make the "dregs tube" come from Starbucks' own coffee after extraction and reuse.
This "dregs tube" is for cold drinks such as Star Frappuccino, while hot drinks also have their own instant drink cup lid, which does not need a straw. Compared with the previous straws, the "slag tube" provides a better straw experience, such as agitation resistance and no soft collapse in soaking, not easy to stick to the mouth and the ability to absorb large particles smoothly.
More than 850 stores in Shanghai will be the first to provide "slag pipes" from April 22, and plans to gradually cover stores nationwide this year, Starbucks said.
At the same time, Starbucks also launched the "store cold drink cup".
At present, store cold drink cups have been opened in Hainan Province and Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen will also be arranged to use, and then will continue to enter more cities across the country.
Although coffee grounds can be used in many ways, the idea of making straws is relatively rare. In addition to Starbucks, some cafes have launched the idea before.
On April 13th, boutique coffee brand MANNER has launched coffee grounds straws!
Manner Coffee said on its official account: coffee grounds straw is a bio-based biodegradable coffee grounds straw, containing coffee grounds polylactic acid biodegradable material, cold resistance of-10 degrees, heat resistance of more than 50 degrees, while Manner recommends that this coffee grounds straw is best used at room temperature and ice drinks.
At present, the coffee grounds straw has also been put into use in Manner's first coffee shop, and Manner said it will also be launched in stores across the country.
Both Starbucks and Manner Coffee have introduced the use of coffee grounds as an element to make straws based on environmental protection.
Since the implementation of the "plastic straw ban" across the country last year, there is a strong demand for paper straws, and paper straws are in short supply. At the same time, due to the problem of paper materials, paper straws are easy to soften in the process of use. thus affecting the taste of drinks has become one of the issues of concern to many consumers. now, the coffee field to achieve the use of coffee grounds on coffee straws undoubtedly plays a better role in environmental protection. It also solves the problem that paper straws affect the taste.
The only unfriendly thing is that this type of straw is too expensive to make.
It is understood that compared with paper straws, because the raw material prices of PLA straws remain high, the cost of PLA straws is higher than that of paper straws, while the cost of paper straws is 3 times that of plastic straws. For example, the cost of a plastic straw is 3 cents, and a paper straw may be as high as 10 cents.
Going back to the topic of coffee grounds, coffee grounds, as the most common garbage in cafes, are usually directly discarded as rubbish after being used. Discarding coffee grounds in a large area is actually very easy to cause environmental pollution, but in fact, the use of coffee grounds goes far beyond making straws.
Before the concept of coffee grounds straw was put forward, coffee grounds were also used in automobiles, clothing and children's toys. Since coffee beans form pores like activated carbon when roasting coffee beans, coffee grounds are also widely used to dehumidify and remove odors. Manner Coffee even opened a coffee shop out of coffee grounds not long ago.
In February, a shoe designed by Nike Air Force, a sneaker brand owned by the world's leading sports brand Nike, was also inspired by coffee.
In March 2020, Anta developed an environmentally friendly coffee yarn series by recycling 100 tons of coffee grounds, recycling coffee grounds into polyester fiber, realizing waste recycling, and finally producing "environmentally friendly theme" shoes and clothing with coffee grounds.
In November 2020, a Japanese brand mixed the equivalent of 40 cups of coffee residue into the fiber of the coat to create a coffee grounds cold-proof coat.
In December 2019, the Ford Motor Company made auto parts by recycling McDonald's coffee grounds.
In March 2021, Manner adopted the element of "coffee grounds" and opened a flash cafe with the theme of environmental protection. the bar in the coffee shop and the tables and chairs in the guest area were made of coffee grounds recycled materials, so the shop exuded the aroma of coffee everywhere. in addition, due to the particularity of the coffee shop, Manner Coffee also proposed that the coffee grounds produced in the coffee shop during the period should not only be used by customers themselves. KAFFTEC is responsible for recycling the rest.
For Starbucks, a master of environmental protection, this is not the first time coffee grounds have been used in the concept of environmental protection.
Last Earth Day, Starbucks launched a dregs cup, which uses coffee grounds instead of some plastic particles, and contains more than 30% coffee grounds in the outer layer of the coffee residue cup.
During the same period, Starbucks also launched a dregs notebook, which is also made from coffee grounds recycled from Starbucks stores, with coffee grounds on the cover and back cover, and recycled paper on the inside.
Starbucks, which is committed to the cause of environmental protection, had previously planned to expand the new renewable material to the furniture of tables and chairs in its stores.
Last,
Coffee grounds are being fully utilized and industry insiders say: coffee grounds are expected to become a new generation of environmentally friendly and renewable energy with better economic benefits in the future.
