Another coffee giant has asked for a pay rise, this time the COSTA family.

According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (British Broadcasting Corporation,BBC) on September 9th, Kashijia announced a 5% pay rise for its employees and hired 2000 new employees.

However, the pay increase is limited to stores in the UK, not globally, and only to employees in non-franchise stores. Kashijia has 1500 stores in the UK, of which 1200 are franchised.

The pay rise is to thank employees for their hard work during the epidemic and to give only a 5 per cent pay rise to the 14500 employees in its UK stores. Ka Shijia also said that with the end of blockade restrictions due to the COVID-19 epidemic since July, consumer demand for coffee has been rising to deal with the situation, and has decided to recruit 2000 new employees. More new stores will be opened in the coming months.

Before that, after demand did not rebound after the end of the blockade of the first COVID-19 outbreak, the coffee chain was forced to lay off 609 workers last year in an effort to cut costs.

When the pay rise takes effect on October 1, store employees will earn an extra 500 to 900 pounds a year.

According to Sky News (Sky News), a local news agency, the company currently pays its employees a minimum hourly wage of £9.36. The minimum wage for employees who oversee store management and coffee production will be raised from £9.64 an hour to £10.29.

COSTA China, which was hit by the COVID-19 epidemic, withdrew from the Qingdao market in August 2020 and closed a large number of stores in Beijing, Shanghai and other cities, attracting public attention with the "store closure storm". COSTA Kashijia shifted its focus to coffee retail. In April 2021, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of COSTA Ka Family, a new series of cold extraction products with cold flavor was launched.

COSTA Ka Family was founded in 1971 by two brothers Bruno Costa and Sergio Costa from Italy and sold to British companies. The first coffee shop was opened in 1981 on Vauxhall Bridge Road in London, England. Coffee production was relocated to London's Old Paradise Street (Old Paradise Street) in 1988. It is now the largest coffee chain in the UK, operating more than 4,000 stores in more than 30 countries around the world.

On Aug. 31, 2018, Coca-Cola announced a final agreement to buy Costa Limited Co., Ltd., valued at $5.1 billion from its parent company, Whitbread PLC, while acquiring the coffee brand and its nearly 4000 stores and professional baristas, coffee vending machines, home coffee and coffee roasting businesses.

COSTA Ka Shijia established Yueda Ka Shijia (Shanghai) Food and Beverage Management Co., Ltd. in Shanghai at the end of 2006, and opened its first store in China in 2007 in Nanjing East Road pedestrian Street. In the second half of 2008, Hualian Kashijia Restaurant Management Co., Ltd. was established in Beijing, officially entered the Beijing market, and rapidly developed 43 chain stores in Beijing. As of Sept. 10, 2021, Chinese mainland had 256 offline stores, according to the official website of COSTA Kashijia.
