OATLY and other brands of plant milk have been recalled due to bacterial contamination!

The Food and Drug Administration issued a recall warning on July 29th that Lyons Magnus, a food service leader based in Fresno, Calif., had 53 beverages and nutrients, including OATLY oatmeal milk, that could be subject to Cronobacter, which voluntarily filed a recall.

It is understood that Cronobacter sakazakii is a bacterium that can be found in dry goods and sewers, and the chance of infection is not high, but it will be particularly dangerous for babies and people with weak immune systems. Once infected, common symptoms may include fever, vomiting and urinary tract infections, and in more severe cases, septicemia or meningitis.

So far, no diseases or complaints related to the recalled products have been reported, but according to a preliminary judgment, these recalled products do not comply with commercial aseptic regulations, the announcement said.

According to the list of recalled products shown in the announcement, the recalled products involved specific batches of beverages, liquid coffee, pediatric supplements, protein milkshakes, nutritious milkshakes and so on. Including Oatly oatmeal milk coffee master series, 12 boxes of ultra-thin cartons.

Oatly responded to worried consumers one by one on Twitter.

The voluntary recall on Oatly's US website mentioned that the infected products were specific batches of master coffee products from a factory in Wisconsin in April this year. The contaminated products do not involve other products under the Oatly brand, nor do they involve areas outside the United States.

Meanwhile, Oatly USA said the contaminated products were mainly distributed to Oatly's food service partners in the United States, such as distributors in restaurants and cafes. In response, notices have been given to food service partners who may be affected.

Oatly became rich with oatmeal milk, and now it has become synonymous with oatmeal milk. The coffee master series developed plant milk for the brand for cafes. Coffee master oatmeal milk helped Oatly enter one cafe after another and enter the market in one country after another. Today, its products can be seen in more than 20 countries around the world.

On Aug. 2, Oatly disclosed its latest results, showing revenue of $178 million in the second quarter, up 21.8% from a year earlier, and overall revenue in the first half was $344 million, up 20.2% from a year earlier. Of this total, revenue in Asia rose 66.3 per cent year-on-year to $4370 trillion, with about 58 per cent of revenue coming from catering services, a force that cannot be ignored in Oatly growth. But in terms of net profit, the oatmeal milk giant is still at a loss, losing $72 million in the second quarter and $159 million in the first half.
