Yesterday, OATLY issued a notice on official account about the preventive recall of Oat Drink Deluxe (OATLY original mellow oat milk) 330ml products in the Chinese market.

On July 28th, Lyons Magnus LLC, one of OATLY's production partners in the United States, was announced. The announcement said that it took the initiative to recall 53 different brands of drinks and nutrients produced by the company because of the risk of microbial contamination in its production line, including OATLY oatmeal milk, chocolate oatmeal milk, "Coffee Master" series oatmeal milk and other batches.

The reason is that these 53 products do not meet commercial aseptic standards and may have the risk of microbial contamination such as Cronobacter sakazakii and Botox, but Botox has not been found in the products yet. Consumers are advised not to eat any recalled batches of products, even if they do not look or smell bad.

Until August 16, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an expanded recall announcement for Lyons Magnums, adding more than 30 new recall products for nutrition and beverages.

The Oat Drink Deluxe 330ml sold in China is produced by relevant companies, although the batches are not on the recall list announced by Lyons Magnus in the United States, the above products are also submitted for inspection in accordance with the regulations and comply with the relevant laws and regulations. Immediately after the announcement of the production company, OATLY sent the products produced by the company to a state-approved laboratory for testing, and the result was that no microbial contamination was found in Oat Drink Deluxe 330ml.

For safety reasons, OATLY China announced a recall of 12 batches of Oat Drink Deluxe 330ml products on August 19, with the following production dates:

Immediately after the announcement, some netizens said that they had already drunk it. OATLY responded that all OATLY products in the Chinese market have passed the import test, are safe and comply with relevant laws and regulations, so consumers can rest assured.

For the sudden recall of no problem products, some netizens think that since there is no problem in the domestic market, there is no need to recall the products, causing public anxiety about food safety.

When OATLY oatmeal milk was recalled in the United States, the customer service of OATLY's official flagship store also said that this product had not been introduced in China, so consumers can rest assured to choose. This time, it also said that a product in the Chinese market was produced by the company involved, but not in the recall batch of the US market. Although it was indicated that it had been sent for testing and no microbial infection was found, the test report was not released.

Domestic consumers remain skeptical about the recall and worry that drinking it may cause health problems.

OATLY oatmeal milk has attracted wide attention because in 2020 Starbucks China launched an oatmeal latte with the theme of "Star Dieteticism", and oatmeal milk instantly became synonymous with a healthy new diet. Subsequently, domestic cafes, large and small, have also provided the choice of oatmeal milk one after another, so it has attracted the attention of many consumers.

There are also many consumers believe that oats are rich in dietary fiber, which can maintain the balance of intestinal flora, inhibit the absorption of cholesterol, and accelerate cholesterol metabolism. Compared with milk, oatmeal milk has no lactose, which can reduce the risk of obesity.
