Beijing Hosts Its First Coffee Carnival This December

Whether you’re a Beijing coffee enthusiast or just curious about specialty brews, the city’s first-ever dedicated coffee festival brings everything from elite barista battles to live music, hands-on games, and premium prizes—all set against the backdrop of a major shopping destination.

From December 6 to 7, the inaugural Beijing Coffee Carnival takes over the first floor of Aegean Shopping Mall (12 Qisheng Road, Chaoyang District). Expect two national coffee competitions, expert-led sessions, interactive experiences, and more—curated by long-time coffee educators at Bloom Coffee College.

What Is the Beijing Coffee Carnival?

The Beijing Coffee Carnival is a weekend-long celebration of specialty coffee culture, organized by leading Chinese coffee training institute Bloom Coffee College . Taking place on December 6–7 at Aegean Shopping Mall in Beijing, it gathers top baristas, enthusiasts, and industry professionals for competitions, workshops, live entertainment, and coffee-themed fun. The event aims to elevate public interest in professional coffee standards while connecting local and international coffee scenes.

World-Class Coffee Competitions Take Center Stage

The carnival will host two major international coffee competitions: the 2015 World Barista Championship (WBC) China Regional Beijing Qualifier and the 2015 World Aeropress Championship (WAC) China Regional Beijing Qualifier.

2015 World Barista Championship (WBC) China Region – Beijing Station

Organized by Shanghai B&H International Exhibition and hosted by Bloom Coffee College, this qualifier is part of the globally recognized World Barista Championship (WBC), often dubbed the “Olympics of Coffee.” Backed by the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) and the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), the WBC emphasizes skill, creativity, and coffee knowledge. Competitors have 15 minutes to prepare and serve 4 espressos, 4 cappuccinos, and 4 signature drinks to a panel of expert judges. The Beijing round is a key stop en route to the national finals at the March 2015 HOTELEX Shanghai, where the winner earns a spot to represent China at the global WBC stage.

WBC Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a Chinese citizen aged 18 or older
• Minimum 2 years of barista experience and proficiency with semi-automatic espresso machines
• Maximum of 3 participants per company, verified by official stamp
• Applicant’s business license must be registered in the designated competition region
• Each competitor may enter only one city-level event; first entry counts officially

2015 World Aeropress Championship (WAC) China Region – Beijing Station

Also hosted by Bloom Coffee College, the WAC is a more accessible, fun-focused event open to both professionals and home enthusiasts—with free entry. Unlike the WBC, the WAC encourages creative preparation using the Aeropress brewing method. It’s designed for anyone who loves great coffee and wants to share their personal brew style. The Beijing stop serves as a prime showcase for both aspiring and experienced coffee lovers alike.

More Than Just Competitions: A Full Coffee Experience

Beyond elite contests, the carnival features curated performances including coffee dance routines, interactive games, and educational exhibits. Attendees can engage with leading baristas, explore cutting-edge brew methods, and win prizes while enjoying a lively atmosphere designed to inspire a deeper appreciation for specialty coffee.

Volunteer Opportunities at the Carnival

The event is actively recruiting volunteers to assist with both the festival and competitive events. Volunteers will receive training, a stipend, meals, and fresh-roasted coffee beans as thanks for their help during the weekend.

Volunteer Requirements:

• Passion for coffee and commitment to the event schedule
• Available for full-day shifts on both December 6 and 7
• Participation in a pre-event training session (provided)
• Limited to 20 positions
