South Korean study finds caffeine inhibits brain cancer growth
Researchers from South Korea and other countries reported in the latest issue of the US Journal of Cancer Research that they have found that caffeine in coffee and green tea can effectively inhibit the growth of a brain tumor. This discovery will be of great significance to the development of drugs for the treatment of brain cancer.
According to South Korean media reports, researchers from famous universities inside and outside the United Nations of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology have found that caffeine contained in coffee and green tea has an inhibitory effect on inositol triphosphate receptor. The latter is associated with glioblastoma, a common malignant tumor of the brain. Calcium plays an important role in the growth and spread of glioblastoma, and the inositol triphosphate receptor is one of the channels for calcium release, the researchers said. Animal experiments have shown that caffeine can selectively inhibit ip3r and reduce intracellular calcium concentration, thus inhibiting the growth and spread of glioblastoma.
