Cross-strait Agricultural Cooperation gives birth to Coffee Industry in Fujian

At the first Cross-Strait Modern Agriculture Expo held here, Nankeng Town of Nanjing County in Fujian Province and Dongshan Township of Tainan County in Taiwan successfully docked to discuss in-depth cooperation and exchanges in coffee industry and promote the construction of the first coffee demonstration park in Fujian Province.

"Nankeng Town's coffee industry benefited from Fujian and Taiwan agricultural exchanges and cooperation. Our first coffee sapling was introduced from Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan." Nankeng town mayor Zhang article told reporters.

Coffee industry is an emerging industry in Fujian Province. In 2006, Huang Wen-kuang, a Taiwanese businessman who invested in Nankeng, brought several Arabica coffee seedlings from Kukeng Township to Nankeng Township for trial planting, and brought the coffee fruits back to Taiwan for processing and roasting. He found that the coffee grown in Nankeng had a strong aroma and good quality, no less than Gukeng coffee.

Later, Huang Wenguang proposed to the local government the idea of investing in coffee plantations, which received strong support. At the end of 2008, he invested 5 million US dollars to establish Zhangzhou Tianlu (Nankeng) Coffee Demonstration Base in Nankeng Town. At present, the first 100 mu coffee sightseeing garden and the first coffee planting demonstration base in Fujian Province have been built, driving local farmers to plant more than 500 mu of coffee, and successfully registered the trademark of "Nankeng Coffee."

Zhang article said, Nankeng coffee planting experience is lacking, we invite Taiwan famous coffee expert Lai Zhengxiong for technical guidance, most of the business model from Taiwan's "ancient pit","Dongshan" coffee. In August this year, Nankeng Town Agricultural Technology Service Center signed a coffee industry development cooperation agreement with Gukeng Township Coffee Production Cooperative to promote cooperation between enterprises and non-governmental organizations in the two places.

During this agricultural fair, Dongshan Township of Tainan County sent coffee planting experience, which made Zhang feel excited. He said that the coffee industry has been incorporated into the development plan of the modern agricultural cooperation park on both sides of the Taiwan Strait (Nanjing, Fujian Province), and will take the creation of a "coffee demonstration park" as an opportunity to strengthen technical exchanges with Taiwan's Gukeng and Dongshan counterparts within the scope permitted by policies, and make use of Nankeng's location, resources, policy advantages and Taiwan coffee brand advantages, resource advantages and management experience to jointly create a perfect industrial chain and further promote the industrial docking of modern agriculture between Fujian and Taiwan.

Mayor Zhang confidently said: "Next year we will hold a cross-strait coffee culture festival with Taiwan's counterpart towns to showcase our docking achievements!" (End)
