Steadily promoting the Scientific Development of Pu'er Coffee Industry
Yang Weidong pointed out, "in addition to producing world-famous Pu'er tea, Pu'er is also a golden area for coffee cultivation. It is in the same latitude as Colombia, a world-famous coffee growing area, and has unique geographical and climatic conditions for growing coffee. The cultivation of coffee in Pu'er City has a history of about 150 years, and it is regarded as the area with the largest coffee planting area, the best coffee planting environment, the best coffee quality, the largest coffee output and the most promising coffee industry in China.
It is understood that since the early 1990s, the Pu'er municipal party committee and government have always regarded the development of coffee as a dominant backbone industry to adjust the industrial structure and increase farmers' income. Coffee is grown in 54 townships (towns) in 9 counties and 1 district of Pu'er City, directly benefiting more than 20,000 farmers. In 2010, the planting area of coffee reached 230000 mu, accounting for 52.8% and 50.5% of the province and the whole country respectively, with an output of 21000 tons and an output value of 450 million yuan, of which 12300 tons were exported, with an export value of 30.263 million US dollars. Yang Weidong believes that "the coffee industry has become a new characteristic industry for Pu'er City's financial growth, enterprise efficiency, and farmers' income to become rich."
Yang Weidong said: in the development process of Pu'er coffee industry, the Pu'er municipal government and Nestle Coffee Company have established a good strategic partnership, and Nestle has introduced high-quality small-grain coffee for Pu'er. It has made great contributions to the prosperity and development of Pu'er coffee cultivation. Today, the Pu'er municipal government signed a memorandum of cooperation with Nestl é and held a grand ceremony for giving books to the Coffee planting Handbook, marking a new stage of cooperation between the Pu'er coffee industry and the world's top 500 enterprises Nestle.
