Coffee market the main producer of Mexican coffee is in poverty.
Mexico's "Economist" reported on July 30 that according to Mexico's National Social Development Policy Evaluation Committee (Coneval), at least 48 percent of the population in Mexico's 10 major coffee-producing cities are poor, including four in Chiapas, five in Veracruz and one in Guerrero. The average monthly income of the urban population in these areas is 2.114 pesos (about 132U.S. dollars), while the average monthly income in rural areas is 1329 pesos (83 U.S. dollars). Education, medical services, social security, housing space, housing and basic food services are not guaranteed. In 2014, coffee production in these 10 cities was 1166025 tons, accounting for 21.4% of the national coffee production.
