The first cat-themed cafe in the UK opened more briskly than expected.
Mog on the Tyne is the first cat-themed cafe in the north-east of England. Founder Katie Jane Glazier,28, from St. Peter, opened the cafe after more than a year of preparation, realizing the dream of allowing cat lovers to sit together for coffee and dessert. In order to take the best care of the cats, the staff of the cafe have been trained. Katie also runs an online store for cat-themed products.
Mog on the Tyne can receive up to 20 guests at a time, visitors need to book online, booking time is calculated by the hour. Of course, if there are seats available in the store, passers-by can also come in. Katie said she had received more than 1000 bookings in just a few days after opening. "I know people in the north-east of England love cats and cat-themed cafes, but this number still gives us a great shock and surprise," she said.
Cat-themed cafes first appeared in Japan and became popular all over the world, probably because city dwellers don't have the time or space to keep their own pets.
Mog on the Tyne also has a place for office workers to relieve stress, where they can relax by having a cup of tea and visiting cats after work. Mog on the Tyne's menu has a cat-themed recipe with Catte lattes, panini sandwiches and cakes baked by pet pastry shops.
All the cats in the cafe come from the Westgate Sanctuary, which has entered into a partnership with Katie in the hope that some of the cats it rescues will be adopted by loving owners. (translated and reported by China Youth Network)
