"grandcafe sijthoff" is an all-organic coffee shop opened in the original site of a publishing house in Leiden, the Netherlands. In order to make the interior style consistent with the overall style of the restaurant, the coffee shop commissioned the designer of AftU (agent for the underused) to design custom furniture for the coffee shop. Coffee shops require custom furniture to be flexible to adapt to changing needs every day, while being able to stand at the forefront of popular coffee shop trends-recycled wood and old items found in flea markets are undoubtedly the most appropriate choice.

A burning mark on the table

AftU first purchased a variety of different agriculture-related items (especially crates for transporting vegetables), most of which were waste that farmers had saved up and had nowhere to pile. After determining the direction of the design, the designer soon found the ideal old stuff at the local flea market. In the end, the designer made a table with vegetable crates and legs with second-hand tables and similar items, forming a number of tables with their own styles. The rigid lines of the same shape of multiple tables form an interesting contrast with the legs of different shapes, giving each table a unique personality.

Like desktops, coffee shop bars and benches and sofas are made of crates. The boards are spliced together in the same basic way, which is not only the outer material but also the structural part. AftU uses a lot of elements from the countryside, which also reflects the indoor atmosphere of the "grandcafe sijthoff" coffee shop and echoes the purity of all-organic food in the coffee shop.
