The 40% increase in exports of the coffee industry in Honduras this year has greatly enhanced the status of coffee.
Dagoberto Suazo, director of the coffee production and marketing cooperative in Honduras, said that coffee production and export in Honduras have grown significantly due to pest control and proper fertilizer application.
The industry leader pointed out that the coffee production in Honduras this harvest year has exceeded the 4 million per cent in the last harvest year (2014-2015). If this trend continues, the annual output is expected to exceed 7 million per cent.
Suvasso said that although the price of coffee on the international market in New York was already less than $140 per gram, the profit of the Honduras product was still very substantial.
Suwasso estimates that the total value of Honduras coffee exports this harvest year is expected to exceed $1.1 billion, an increase of 30 to 40 per cent compared with the previous year.
At the same time, he pointed out that Germany and the United States are still the main buyers of Honduras coffee.
