Popular science knowledge in the fragrance of coffee
After dinner on the 16th, Xinmin Science Cafe opened again in Room 901, Sinan Building, Shanghai Science Hall, with coffee fragrant and crowded. Members of the public who came to listen to the popular science lecture filled the venue.
Since its opening in 2005, Shanghai Xinmin Science Cafe has held 168 popular science lectures, with a total audience of 30,000 people. The theme of this popular science lecture held on the evening of the 16th is for citizens to interpret "the present and future of urban air quality", which people are most concerned about right now.
Tang Xiaoyan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Peking University, made a special trip to explain the formation and harm of PM2.5 for everyone. Fu Qingyan, chief engineer of Shanghai Environmental Inspection Center, focused on the measures and effects of controlling nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and PM10 air pollution in Shanghai in recent years. Wu Qizhou, deputy director of the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, introduced the measures to be taken by Shanghai to control air pollution, and revealed that the municipal government will recently introduce a Shanghai action plan that echoes the "Ten principles of the atmosphere", with the goal of reducing Shanghai's PM2.5 concentration by 20% by 2017.
"after listening to the popular science lectures of several experts, I learned more about PM2.5 and increased my confidence in the government's governance of PM2.5." Said Wang Rusong, a retired senior engineer at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Since the opening of Xinmin Science Cafe, Wang Rusong has come to attend almost every issue, and every time he has a lot of questions to consult and exchange with experts. He is an out-and-out fan of popular science. "listening to more popular science lectures will enable me to keep up with the pace of scientific and technological development, constantly enrich myself, and make my retirement life more colorful." Wang Rusong said.
Although 9-year-old Shen Junheng is the youngest listener in the venue, he is also very experienced. "I started to attend this event when I was 3 years old, and I was interested in previous lectures on mammoths, 3D printing, the hottest summer in history, and so on." Xiao Junheng told the reporter: "every time I listen to a lecture, I can learn a lot of extracurricular knowledge, and every time I take notes carefully."
Xiao Junheng's father, Shen Ruoqing, said: "when listening to lectures at Xinmin Science Cafe, people can communicate face-to-face with many authoritative scientists. The atmosphere is as relaxed as usual. Not only do children receive education, but they also benefit a lot every time they come to listen. I hope that the popular science activities that are close to the common people will continue and get better and better."
