Consumption of tea and coffee in Arab countries has more than tripled
According to the latest statistics released by the International Coffee Organization, tea and coffee consumption in Arab countries has more than tripled in the past decade. Consumption in the United Arab Emirates has increased by 85% in the past three years. The per capita annual consumption of tea and coffee in the United Arab Emirates is 3.5 kg, which is about double that of other Gulf countries, and tea consumption has increased by 47%.
In 2011, global coffee consumption exceeded 8 million metric tons, an increase of 2.4% over the same period last year; daily coffee consumption was 1.4 billion cups.
The economic challenge tolerance of emerging markets is higher than that of developed markets, so the current growth in coffee consumption is mainly concentrated in emerging markets.
The United Arab Emirates is the world's fastest-growing market for coffee sales, which is expected to grow by 80 per cent from 2009 to 2014, with a compound annual growth rate of more than 12 per cent. The United Arab Emirates is the main tea trading partner, with tea re-exports of about 18000 tons from 2010 to 2011.
