An explosion occurred in a cafe in the tourist town of Beles Malaga in Andalusia in southern Spain, injuring 90 people, five of them seriously.

The explosion occurred at about 7 p.m. on the 1st, causing all the windows and doors of the cafe to be shattered, the Associated Press reported. At the time of the incident, many tourists were taking part in a festival activity near the site of the incident. The emergency department in Andalusia said 57 of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, of which 15 with minor injuries have been discharged, while 33 others were taken to other local medical institutions, mostly bruises or scratches.

Rescuers say the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak in the cafe's kitchen, but this claim has not been officially confirmed. An employee of the cafe warned diners and nearby people a few minutes before the explosion, but there was no time to evacuate, local media reported. Local official Antonio Ferrer said the relevant departments were conducting an investigation into the incident.
