Vietnam's coffee exports continue to increase
According to Japanese media reports, Vietnam ranks first in the world in the production of Robasta coffee beans used to make instant coffee, and exports are increasing. On the other hand, there are also problems such as difficulties in delivering goods to farmers and problems in purchasing coffee beans from foreign countries and processing orders for export companies. Local economic newspapers such as Vietnam Investment Review reported the incident.
According to the statistics of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Local Development, the export volume of Robasta coffee beans from January to June 2012 was 1.1 million tons, an increase of 26.5% year-on-year, and the export amount was 2.3 billion US dollars, an increase of 20.4% year-on-year. However, the export price of coffee beans rose by US $21 per ton due to high domestic prices caused by the reduction of stocks in June. As a result, farmers dissatisfied with the export company's purchase price stopped shipping, and the export company had to transfer goods from countries such as Indonesia.
With regard to this trend, experts pointed out that this is not only a price problem, but also a problem in industrial structure. Ninety percent of Vietnam's coffee industry is made up of small-scale farmers, and experts believe that large-scale farms must be formed to maintain stable supply. In addition, there are also calls for establishing production and processing processes in Vietnam by fostering processing industries that do not thrive in domestic production, so that farmers can have no worries.
