Prosecutors accused the suspect, 28-year-old woman Jessica Kumari Onso, of adding cyanide to the victim's coffee, causing her death and demanding that Onso be sentenced to 20 years in prison. Weng Suo has permanent residency in Australia and studied design at the same university as the victim in Sydney.
According to the prosecution, the victim suggested that Weng Suo break up with her drug-addicted boyfriend, causing resentment.
The case attracted national attention in Indonesia, and local television stations broadcast the trial live. During the trial, Weng Suo refused to plead guilty and cried and argued that he was "absolutely not a murderer." The case is still under trial.
