Russian media: us scientists say drinking coffee helps prevent Alzheimer's disease
It is reported that the earlier theory that drinking coffee can have a positive effect on the brain has been confirmed by experiments on rodents, while the conclusions of this experiment were made by scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The conclusion was drawn from a long-term study of 6500 women over the age of 65 and analysis of a large amount of data.
In the course of the experiment, the researchers monitored the health of the 6500 women for 10 years. They recorded the daily coffee consumption and frequency of the participants, and analyzed their brain performance after drinking coffee each time. By the end of the experiment, 388 subjects had been diagnosed with cognitive impairment.
Through this experiment, scientists have also come up with an interesting coffee drinking "rule": if a woman eats 261 grams of caffeine (about 2 cups of coffee) a day, her risk of developing Alzheimer's disease can be reduced by 36%.
Although scientists have come up with such a "law", they are not sure whether caffeine is at work. They believe that it is more likely that coffee can block some of the body's specific chemical receptors, adenosine A2A. The functioning of these receptors becomes more and more irregular with age, and the irregularity of their work affects the areas of the brain responsible for learning and memory.
