Recently, China Daily reported that a prepared coffee called "Kopi Songkok" contains the potentially fatal ingredient Sildenafil (sildenafil).

Dr. Amusan Khan, who often shares medical advice on social media, posted on social media X, or Twitter, that the Ministry of Health had banned the sale of "Songkok" coffee. However, it is surprising that although this kind of coffee can cause physical discomfort such as headaches and palpitations, many Malaysians continue to drink it.

It is reported that what doctors call "Kopi Songkok" is actually a coffee product named "Panggung AL-Ambiak Natural Herbs Coffee (translated name: Dongge Ali herbal coffee)". When the local Ministry of Health issued a notice banning the sale of poisonous and falsely labeled food in 2020, the coffee was added to the list and banned from sale.

But today, this product can still be seen on the market, and some people will buy and drink this uncomfortable coffee.

Dr. Amusan Khan said he shared the dangers of "Kopi Songkok" with netizens on TikTok last week and found that many people reported to him about their symptoms after drinking the coffee in the comment area.

Sildenafil in Kopi Songkok can be used to treat some diseases, but excessive intake of sildenafil can lead to vasodilation and a sharp drop in blood pressure, so drugs containing such ingredients can only be prescribed by doctors, he said. If sildenafil is not used correctly, it can cause headaches, nausea, diarrhea, muscle pain, rapid heartbeat, stroke and, in extreme cases, death.

Therefore, Dr. Amusan Khan reminded netizens not to buy and drink this coffee blindly, so as not to damage their health. If there are uncomfortable symptoms such as headache and nausea after drinking, you should immediately consult a qualified doctor to get appropriate treatment.

Many netizens also shared their experiences after drinking the coffee in the comment area. "in order to stay awake on the night shift, I drank this coffee once. As a result, my blood pressure increased, I was admitted to the hospital the next day and had a fever for a week. I haven't touched any coffee since then."

In addition, Lin registered and opened three online stores on an online platform for profit, selling a food called Dongge Alimaka Coffee, which was identified by relevant departments to contain sildenafil, the Supreme people's Procuratorate reported.

After investigation, Lin sold a total of 777 packets of coffee involved, with a sales amount of 13000 yuan. In April this year, the court sentenced Lin to 11 months in prison and fined 25000 yuan for producing and selling toxic and harmful food. At the same time, Lin was ordered to bear punitive damages of 10 times the sales amount, publish a consumer warning in the media and make a public apology.
