In 2016, Kenyan coffee exports increased by 7.8 per cent to US $206 million, of which 85 per cent was auctioned through the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) and the rest sold directly overseas. According to statistics, the main destinations of Kenyan coffee exports are Germany, Belgium and the United States, and the prices vary, with each bag of 50kg coffee beans selling for about $250,240 and $300 respectively. Ken plans to expand the export market through the American Special Coffee Association (SCAA) seminar exhibition to be held in Seattle in April. In addition, according to NCE, coffee sales in February rose 63 per cent year-on-year to $90.97 million and 30 per cent to 16.9t, while the price per bag of 50kg beans rose 25.61 per year to $268, mainly because the beans on the market are high-quality beans, and as the production season of high-quality beans draws to a close, many buyers are actively hoarding for later sale.
