2017 Salvadoran coffee exports fell slightly
According to official statistics, in the first three months of the 2016-2017 harvest year, Salvadoran coffee exports fell slightly by 0.67% compared to the same period of the previous year.
El Salvador exported 35,936 quintals of coffee between October 1 and December 31 last year, compared with 36,180 quintals for the same period last year, according to the Salvadoran Coffee Commission (CSC).
Since the international price of coffee for the current year is approximately US $166 per quintal, El Salvador's coffee exports for the first quarter of the current year totalled approximately US $5,976,007, a decrease of 1.9 per cent compared with US $6,089,021 for the same period of the previous year.
The CSC also noted that the main markets for Salvadoran coffee exports during the three-month period were the United States (68.8 per cent of total exports), Germany (8.4 per cent), Belgium (7.2 per cent), Japan (3.3 per cent) and Jordan (2.3 per cent).
