Economic independence after independence

The difference with the coffee industry in Brazil

Promote the development of coffee industry through technological revolution

In the 1970s, a technological revolution took place in Costa Rica and great changes took place in the coffee industry. With the introduction of agricultural chemicals, the decrease of shade trees and the introduction of new varieties, the harvest increased greatly.

Domestic coffee production in Costa Rica almost tripled, reaching 1400 kg in 1995, equivalent to a harvest of 560kg per hectare in 1960. Therefore, it is possible to carefully select and export higher quality coffee.

Characteristics of Coffee cultivation

In order to produce high-quality beans, Costa Rica carefully selects seedlings from the seed stage and cultivates them. Pick only fully ripe coffee cherries. Naturally ferment and remove the skin according to the graded level. After drying, we finished the coffee and raw beans.

It is said that carefully selected planting from the seed stage was the only way other countries could not do it.

Costa Rica produces high quality coffee beans

Costa Rican coffee is still highly rated. About half of the exported coffee beans are sold on the market as boutique coffee.
