Burundi is a landlocked country located in the Great Rift Valley of East Africa with complex terrain. The steep ridge that suddenly rises to the east bank of Lake Tanganyika (Lake Tanganyika) is the watershed between two major rivers in Africa: the Nile River system and the Congo River system, located in the heart of Africa and its territory resembles the heart of the heart, and is known as the "Heart of Africa".

Burundi "never retreat" Buziraguhindwa washing plant

The owner of the "never retreat" (Buziraguhindwa) washing plant is Salum Ramadhan, which is known to almost everyone in the international boutique coffee industry. The washing plant he built is located in Muruta, in the province of Kayanza, Burundi, near the north of the border with Rwanda. Kayanza has always been recognized as the best coffee producing area in Burundi, with an extremely high altitude, with many mountain areas exceeding 2000 meters. The washing plant itself is as high as 1900 meters. The nearby farmland has fertile soil and rapid drainage, making it very suitable for coffee growth.

Local farmers grow coffee in the nearby primeval forest of Kibira, harvest cherries and deliver them to the processing plant on the same day. Before the establishment of Buziraguhindwa, the nearest processing plant from Muruta in Muruta was 40 kilometers away, which was undoubtedly a difficult task for the rugged mountains at an altitude of 1900 meters. After the Buziraguhindwa of Salum Ramadhan was established, neighboring farmers were finally able to take care of their fruit.

The stream water in the Chibila forest is the source of cherries treated by Buziraguhindwa. The stream is filtered by sand, gravel and stones before it is sent by the PCV pipe to the tank of the treatment plant. The treatment method is the traditional washing method, first remove the light fruits floating on the water, and manually screen defective beans, and then use three-disc McKinnon peeling machine to remove the peel and pulp. Before cleaning, it will ferment for 12 hours, then soak in clean water for 12 hours, and the unqualified beans will be screened according to the density. After that, it is dried on an elevated shed bed for 15-20 days, stirring frequently and screening again at the same time.

The name Buziraguhindwa comes from the name of the local mountains and villages, which originally means "never retreat". Ramadhan Salum, the owner of the washing factory, built Buziraguhindwa in 2010 and has attached great importance to quality from the very beginning of its operation, which many Western bean bakers regard as the best Burundian coffee.

Different farm batches of "never give up" won 18th and 22nd places in the 2015 Burundi extraordinary Cup (Cup of Excellence).
