Starbucks plans to open a number of Zhenxuan coffee shops
Starbucks, the world's largest coffee chain, announced two new types of stores on Friday to meet growing consumer demand for selected coffee, Reuters reported. In addition, Starbucks will open a "fast store" in Manhattan to provide fast services to the city.
Boutique coffee sellers such as Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Blue Bottle Coffee and Intelligentsia and fast-food chains such as McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts and Chick-fil-An are putting more competitive pressure on Starbucks.
Starbucks said it plans to open its first 15000-square-foot small selection coffee shop in the United States in December, and the new store is expected to help Starbucks expand its selection of coffee products from 15 to 30. Recently Starbucks Coffee of Choice sells for between $15 and $50.
Starbucks plans to open 100 selected coffee shops around the world over the next five years, but declined to give further details.
Starbucks plans to test its first "fast store" in Manhattan in 2015. The company said the store was small but convenient, offered a small amount of food and beverages, and would use digital payments and mobile orders to speed up the service.
Starbucks declined to say how many "fast stores" it would open.
