In recent years, with the development of science and technology, more and more manors and producing areas begin to have access to the online auction platform. However, it is also necessary to know the difference between manor independent auctions, public (transparent) auctions and other auctions.
2019 Best off-track in Panama
Independent auction of ★ Manor
In order to promote their own estates' coffee and sell their highest quality coffee to buyers, large well-known estates usually have the ability to select some of their best lots and sell them at auction. In this case, the manor decides which lots will enter the auction through its own quality control team, and the score is also determined internally. Typical manor independent auction representatives include Jade Manor, Rose Summer Village Coffee Manor and so on.

Open (transparent) auction
Public auctions are usually judged by a team of professional judges from all over the world as judges of a coffee raw bean competition, which scores coffee through blind tests, commonly used scoring systems such as SCA and COE. In the strictest competitions, they even invite one of the big four accounting firms (KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloitte or PricewaterhouseCoopers) to oversee domestic and international reviews. The scores and rankings will be announced after the game, and then buyers from all over the world will participate in the auction.

Other bids
Since coffee is a very important source of income for some countries, it may be influenced to some extent by political factors and transparency is questionable. In Africa, for example, there are some bids outside the COE system that may have a similar situation. In this case, knowing who the organizer of the auction is (including who the judging team is) is very important to understand the motivation behind the auction.
The motives behind some auctions may be questionable. Some estates try to operate their own auctions. In this case, it is important to see who the buyer is. In recent years, we did find that there were very high prices in the auctions of some well-known estates, but the buyers were unheard of in the industry, and then they stopped their own independent bids.
Panama (BEST OF PANAMA) auction
Best Panama (BOP) is a 23-year-old raw bean competition that will be auctioned publicly to global buyers after the competition. GRAND CRU has served as the international judge of the event for the past few years, has witnessed the supervision of the event by the big four accounting firms, and has completed the review work with the most famous judges in the world.
Rose summer varieties: green leaf (Green Tip) rose summer variety and copper leaf (Bronze Tip) rose summer variety. Green leaf rose summer is characterized by floral fragrance, strong sour taste and sweet taste. Jade Manor (La Esmeralda Estate)
The Jadeite Manor is located in the corner of the Baru volcano, so the coffee beans produced in this area are mostly named after Baru Mountain when they are not well-known. The surrounding area of Bouquete is scenic, with many leisure hotels, villa, resort estates, and even along the important river Rio Caldera. The Emerald Manor (La Esmeralda) is on the right side of the river in Jaramillo, and then grows coffee in the higher elevation area of Canas Verdes on the left side of the river. It's all thanks to Rudolph Peterson's decision to buy the industry.
Peterson family
Rudolph A. Peterson, the first generation owner of Jade Manor.
In 1964 Rudolph, a Swedish-American financier. Rudolph A.Peterson retired, moved to Panama and bought Bouquete's emerald estate, which is dominated by dairy. A former president of Bank of America and a big shot in financial circles at the time, Rudolph bought Hacienda La Esmeralda only for vacation and later retirement, and it should not have been expected that the estate would become world-famous and even become a representative of the Panamanian boutique coffee estate.
In 1973, his son Price. Peterson earned a doctorate in neurochemistry in the United States, but returned to Bouquete to help his father run the farm. After taking over, Price divides the market into three major brands to sell according to altitude and micro-climate, cup performance and planting varieties (Esmeralda Special,Diamond Mountain grows,Palmyra). Since 2012, Rosa (Geisha / Geisha) has become one of the four major brands.
[Emerald Manor] consists of four farms: Ca?as Verdes, El Velo, Jaramillo and Palmira. All coffee beans are sent to four farms for post-processing. The first farm bought by the Peterson family, the owner, was Palmira.
The Jadeite Special selection (Esmeralda Special), that is, the independent bidding held by the Jadeite Manor itself, is entirely based on the Rose Summer (Geisha / Geisha), each block is subdivided into small batches according to the name of the production block. only the Rose Summer (Geisha / Geisha) lots that the manor takes out for independent bidding can use the Jadeite Special name. Since 2013, there have been nine batches of the Jadeite Special selection.
