Qianjie-introduction of coffee producing areas in Yunnan

Yunnan coffee was planted on a large scale in the mid-1950s, with a planting scale of 4000 hectares at one time. By the end of 1997, the planting area of coffee in the province had reached 7800 hectares. At present, the planting area of the province accounts for 70% of the national area, and the output accounts for 83% of the whole country. Yunnan coffee has established the dominant position in China in terms of planting area and coffee bean production.

The western and southern parts of Yunnan Province are located between 15 °N and the Tropic of Cancer, and most areas are 1000-2000 meters above sea level. The topography is dominated by mountains and slopes, with large ups and downs, fertile soil, sufficient sunshine, rich rainfall and large temperature difference between day and night. These unique natural conditions form the particularity of Yunnan small grain coffee taste-strong but not bitter, fragrant but not strong, slightly fruity. As early as the 1950s, Yunnan small seed coffee was very popular in the international coffee market and was rated as the top grade of coffee.

At present, a total of 42 counties and cities in Yunnan are growing coffee, distributed in 11 prefectures and cities, of which 380000 farmers are growing coffee. Yunnan has formed eight major coffee producing areas-Pu'er, Lincang, Baoshan, Dehong, Xishuangbanna, Dali, Nujiang and Wenshan. In addition, a small amount of coffee is grown in Chuxiong, Honghe, Yuxi, Lijiang and other places.

In fact, "small grain coffee" is just one of the former names of this coffee breed. The so-called "small grain" refers to the relatively small size of its fruit. In contrast, medium-sized coffee berries are medium-sized coffee, while the largest variety of fruit is large-grain coffee.

Small grains of coffee are not unique to Yunnan. Coffee is basically grown in places all over the world. Now we can see small grains of coffee everywhere on the street, but today's merchants will use its other name more often-Arabica coffee.

The word "Arabica" has a very high appearance rate in advertising.

Since the cultivation of commercial coffee was monopolized by Arabs before the 15th century AD, European botanists called coffee a "plant from Arabia"-Arabica, pronounced Arabica.

So at this point, we should be very clear that Yunnan's "small grain coffee" is actually what people often say in the market, "Arabica coffee", but the calling habits are different. All Arabica originated in Africa, then developed by Arabs, and finally spread to America or Asia.

Knowledge: as early as 1892, a missionary from France brought coffee to Yunnan and successfully planted the first coffee tree in a place called Zhu Kula.
