Introduction of Yilongba washing Plant in Tanzania

The Yilomba Water washing Plant is located in the Ilomba village of Mobozi, where the coffee pea-shaped beans look small and round, full of good flavor and impressive bright acidity. The Yilomba ilomba Cooperative has 24 members, all small coffee farmers. In 2000, with the assistance of Kilicafe (Technoserve), they spontaneously formed a group to improve coffee quality and marketing. In 2010, it was officially registered as ilomba Best Coffee Group. Over the years, Technoserve has assisted them well, and their coffee production reached 40 metric tons in 2012. However, in the same year, Technoserve terminated the local tutoring program, and production dropped from 40 metric tons to only 4 metric tons. Because the bank did not trust the farmers after Technoserve left, they were unwilling to support them financially. In 2013, the group established a relationship with Tembo Coffee Company to help them rebuild the washing plant and provide for farming. After 15 years in 2014, he finally regained his prosperity and produced 20 metric tons of coffee. In addition to benefiting their own members, they also provide facilities to neighboring farmers.

After peeling and pulping, cherries are fermented at the bottom for 12 hours, then graded in running ditches, and finally dried in an elevated bed. The sun lasts for 20 days, because the altitude of this area is quite high, the mature period is longer, the size and quality of raw beans are better.

Characteristics of Kent coffee beans in Tanzania

The most common bean species in Tanzania is bourbon, which is locally called Mboi,Mbozi, which is actually the name of the southern province, where the bean is produced.

In the 1890s, Jesuit priests introduced Arabica varieties, and coffee became a cash crop in 1990, starting with Bourbon and later Kent beans, the variety of this coffee.

Tanzania learns from the Kenyan way of producing coffee in many places. For example, the grading system is based on Kenya, and the treatment is Kenyan-style full washing.
