Story

The Muungano Cooperative is located on the west bank of Lake Kivu near the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. The cooperative is made up of about 4400 small farmers, nearly half of whom are women. The main focus of cooperatives is gender justice and racial harmony. These core values are reflected in the name of the cooperative, which means "unity" in Swahili. Muungano was founded in 2009 and has been growing coffee since the early 20th century. They now have two new washing stations, a new cup testing laboratory, and a trained baker and cup testing staff. Cooperatives continue to pursue excellence, and their hard work and dedication are reflected in their excellent coffee products.
