In addition to being a well-known producing area of oolong tea, Taiwan is also a leader in the field of black tea. since the Japanese occupation (1923), the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government House of Taiwan has introduced fine tea seeds from Assam Province of India to Taiwan for planting. There is a place in a basin with varied and fertile soil at an altitude of 600 to 800 meters above sea level, with a superior climate, warm and humid soil, deep soil, abundant rainfall, often shrouded in clouds, and short sunshine time. It constitutes a natural beauty for the growth of tea trees, and that place is now Yuchi Township in Nantou.

Because of the excellent experimental results, in 1936, the Japanese government formally set up a Yuchi black tea experimental branch, which was reclaimed by Mr. Yoshiro Shinai, the father of Taiwan black tea. In 1939, the Yuchi tea area reached a peak of 3000 hectares. at the same time, Mr. Guo Shaosan, a leading figure in Taiwan black tea, also introduced SHAN black tea from the Thai border. With the vigorous development of the Yuchi black tea industry, Taiwan's Yuchi black tea has gained an international reputation.

Although the vigorous export of black tea at that time has ceased to be seen, Taiwan still produces many well-known and high-quality black tea, such as Nantou Yuchi Sun Moon Lake, Hualien, and the three Gorges. In recent years, there has also been a whirlwind of lobular black tea.

Yuchi village, Nantou

Taicha No. 8 (Assam): big leaf species with strong taste and malt flavor

Taicha No. 18 (Hongyu): big leaf species, with mint and cinnamon fragrance, strong convergence.

Taiwan tea No. 21 (Hongyun): middle leaf species, with the scent of pomelo flowers of Rutaceae, is a high-flavor black tea.

Three Gorges and Hualien

Honey-scented black tea: the main kinds of tea are green oolong, big leaf oolong and so on, which are characterized by strong honey fragrance after the bite of small green leafhopper.

Lobular black tea

Because the general oolong tea production season is mainly in spring and winter, and because of the strong sunshine in summer, the content of bitter substances such as catechins is high, so it is not suitable for making oolong tea, but it is a good raw material for making black tea. Qingxin Oolong is the most suitable small leaf black tea, which has elegant aroma, fresh taste and thick glycol, which has found a new way for Qingxin Oolong in summer. At present, it is produced in most of the oolong tea producing areas.
