IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will recall 00360224 "Ikea" METALLISK Metarisk espresso pots made between October 1, 2020 and April 1, 2021 in 2040-2204 batches, involving 1491 pieces, according to a recent release by Shanghai market regulator on official account.

The reason for the recall: in the course of the use of the product, it is possible to crack, cause the base and kettle body to decompose, and may cause the risk of injury such as scald. Market regulation advises relevant consumers to stop using it immediately, and Ikea will provide customers with full return treatment.

Since entering the Chinese market for more than 20 years, Ikea has won the favor of many Chinese consumers because of its simple and beautiful overall product design, lower-than-market prices and its unique physical store shopping experience. In recent years, however, Ikea has had a high frequency of product recalls.

Ikea (China) Investment Co., Ltd. recalled 173600 bowls, plates and cups of the HEROISK Hiros and TALRIKA Talika series, according to the official website of the defective Product Management Center of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in May 2021. The reason is that this series of products are made of polylactic acid (PLA), which is a new material made from renewable resources, mainly from industrial corn.

But then Ikea found that the material could not be heated and cleaned at high temperatures for a long time (such as microwave ovens, dishwashers, etc.). After a period of use, these products may break and may cause burns due to leakage of the high-temperature contents contained in them.

In the first half of 2020, Ikea issued three product recall announcements in five months, involving food safety issues in addition to daily household products. In mid-May 2020, Ikea's official website reported that Ikea food importer Dongen International Logistics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in the Chinese market recalled Ikea M ü SLI mixed dried fruit cereal (flavored cereal products) (500g) sold in March 2019 and later because its mold content exceeded the legal limit.

Earlier, Ikea announced a recall of problematic products involving beach chairs, bicycles, dining tables, drawer cabinets, travel cups, bibs and so on. For example, in 2016, Ikea announced a recall of 35.6 million products in the United States, Canada and other countries, but China was not included in the recall at that time. After an interview with the AQSIQ, Ikea finally submitted a recall plan to the AQSIQ.

Some people in the industry said that the supply of Ikea mainly depends on global low-cost procurement, looking for contract manufacturing, and the production cost pressure of today's products. In order to ensure low prices and profits, suppliers may not be so particular about the use of materials. It is naturally difficult to guarantee the durability or safety of products, which is also the reason for many consumer complaints and recalls of problematic products in Ikea in recent years.

Back to the problem of the mocha pot.

The mocha pot is generally made of aluminum alloy or stainless steel and is divided into three parts: the upper pot, the powder bowl and the lower pot, which are connected by a conduit. The lower pot will be equipped with a pressure relief valve. When the pressure in the kettle is too high during heating, the pressure relief valve will automatically relieve pressure to avoid the risk of cracking and decomposition caused by excessive pressure.

The mocha kettle works by heating the kettle on a heat source, and steam is produced when the water in the bottom of the kettle boils. Using the steam pressure produced by the neatly volatilized water when boiling, the hot water is pushed from the tube through the bowl containing coffee powder, and then filtered through the filter and flowed into the pot.

No matter which brand or model of mocha pot, you need to pay attention to these details when using it!

1. The newly purchased mocha pot must be boiled at least twice before use. The coffee made in the first two times is poured out and not drunk, which can effectively remove the trace metal that may be left in the making process of the mocha pot.

7. Aluminum alloy mocha pot is only suitable for electric ceramic stove, open fire (gas stove, gas stove) and small electricity. Only stainless steel mocha pot can be heated by induction cooker and other heat sources.

8. If the brewed coffee flows into the upper pot in the form of splashing, it may be that the lower pot is too much and does not pass the lower edge of the pressure relief valve; or the coffee powder is ground too coarse, the powder trough is slightly filled, or the coffee powder is not added; or the firepower is too high / the fire is too late; there is also the possibility that the accessories in the pot are not fully installed / misinstalled.

10. The pressure relief valve squeaks and screams during heating because the coffee powder is too fine / the coffee powder is added too much / the water exceeds the lower edge of the pressure relief valve, resulting in too much pressure.
