According to several media sources, Starbucks in Taiwan suddenly issued an announcement on its website in the early morning of February 11, announcing that the prices of some goods will be slightly adjusted from February 12, 2025.

The announcement pointed out that because raw materials are affected by abnormal climate and international situation, Starbucks has to adjust its prices in order to reflect the cost of some raw materials.

According to officials, the price increase includes freshly brewed espresso and daily selections, both by 5 yuan (Taiwan dollars), while tea and cappuccino series are up 10 yuan (Taiwan dollars). For example, "strawberry, Brazil berry and lemon flavor Xingqin Shuang will rise from 85 yuan (NT $) to 95 yuan (NT $)," the increase is 11.8%.

Starbucks confirmed that the price increase includes almost all ready-made drinks, mainly related to freshly brewed espresso and daily selections, which include American style, latte and caramel macchiato. Daily selection series, including coffee Mistol and nitrogen cold extract, will be increased by 5 yuan (NT $).

In addition, tea products include tea lattes and pure tea, with a total of 22 items, all of which will be increased by 10 yuan (NT $), or about 5.3% to 10.5%. The Star Frappuccino series includes 11 categories of Xingqin Shuang, with an increase of 5.4% to 11.8%.

In addition to changes in beverage prices, Starbucks' internal refill offers have also been adjusted simultaneously. In the past, consumers could enjoy a 30% discount on refills on the same day and in the same store with invoices, but tomorrow it will be changed to a 50% discount on refills. For accustomed to using refill service, it undoubtedly offers a more cost-effective discount.

However, in addition to announcing price changes, Starbucks has also launched a series of discounts to attract consumers. From February 12 to 14, Starbucks will hold "Happy Valentine's Day Friends sharing Day" for three consecutive days. During the event, consumers can enjoy the "buy one get one free" discount at Starbucks stores all over Taiwan.

It is worth noting that as early as 2017, Starbucks in Taiwan raised the prices of 29 drinks by an average of 5 to 20 yuan (NT $). The reason behind Starbucks' decision to raise prices this round is the rising cost of coffee beans.

Since 2022, the price of coffee beans has shown a continuous upward trend, and began to soar at the end of last year. At the beginning of 2025, coffee futures hit record highs one after another. Just this morning, Arabica coffee futures broke through a high of 430 cents per pound on the New York Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), setting a 47-year record. Over the past year, coffee futures have risen as much as 118.57%. The soaring price of coffee beans is undoubtedly a serious challenge for some practitioners.

But in fact, for large chain brands such as Starbucks, the company has already set the cost of raw materials. Even if coffee futures soar, the cost of a cup of coffee can be absorbed evenly through operation. But for smaller chain brands or independent cafes, the pressure will obviously be heavier than Starbucks. Some people in the industry have pointed out that as the main indicator of chain coffee brands, once Starbucks increases. It is likely that it will lead the peers to follow suit.
