Recently, the BBC reported that Starbucks employees and union members held protests in England, Scotland and eight other countries on Wednesday in support of American employees who launched the strike.
On November 13, 2025, the Starbucks American labor union launched a strike called the "Red Cup Rebellion" on the occasion of Starbucks 'annual "Red Cup Day" event. At that time, more than 1000 unionized Starbucks employees in more than 40 cities took to the streets, holding high the sign reading "No contract, no coffee" and launching a massive strike in order to fight for their rights and interests.
To this day, the month-old strike is still in progress. According to information provided by unions, the strike has expanded to include 3000 baristas in more than 100 U.S. cities, who have joined the ranks to fight for higher wages, proper staffing and demand that Starbucks resolve hundreds of unfair labor practices complaints.
It is worth mentioning that some local people in the United States have also publicly expressed their support for the strike of Starbucks workers. Not long ago, the elected mayor of New York City and senators appeared at the strike site to visit Starbucks employees participating in the strike and speak up for their demands.
However, although the strike by local Starbucks baristas in the United States has intensified, negotiations between unions and companies have reached a deadlock. Because of this, U.S. unions are trying to increase pressure on the coffee giant and plan to launch international action.
It is understood that the rallies organized by Unite will be held in London, Norwich and Glasgow, and workers in Glasgow will take part in the strike. In addition, Starbucks stores in cities such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Turkey are also planning coordinated protests.
American baristas are preparing to hold a protest in front of the world's largest Starbucks in Chicago on December 10, International Human Rights Day. "Starbucks executives need to know: No matter where Starbucks is, our protest team will be there," a Starbucks barista said in a statement.
In response, the Starbucks American union told the BBC that the protest will involve hundreds of Starbucks workers and union supporters from 10 countries in support of striking Starbucks baristas in the United States.
On the other hand, Starbucks said that less than 5% of its 240,000 front-line employees are union members, so the union-initiated strike only affects less than 1% of the chain's stores, adding that the strike has "no impact" on the overall business.
CNN's latest report mentioned that Starbucks executives told employees in an internal memorandum last month,"Over the past few months, we have been sitting at the negotiating table, negotiating in good faith with unions and representatives from all over the country, and working hard to seek an agreement that is in the interests of employees and will also contribute to Starbucks's long-term success," insisting that they hope to reach an agreement with the union.
